THE GREAT SILENCE
Four years ago, NSMRA and All Souls collaborated in an event which marked the start of the Great War in 1914, a war which still resonates today: a tragedy in every sense for those of us who share this delicate planet.
Now we are back with an event to mark the end of that war, to celebrate the fragile peace, and to tell the story of the social changes which were going on at the time through the media of words and music.
Local professional actors and musicians, working with others from the community, will present the story of the Great Silence on the day one hundred years from the Armistice, on 11 November 2018, at 4pm. During the event, the historic war memorial in the church will be rededicated to mark not just those local people who fell, but all victims of aggression and war.
There will be a retiring collection and any surplus funds will be donated to charity.
If you are interested in taking part in the chorus, there is still time to do so – there are rehearsals on 19 October and 2 and 9 November. Please click here.
GRAND ANNUAL STREET SALE
This was well attended and enjoyed by all. Provisional date for next year 7 September 2019.
Every year, the tuneful and tuneless of our area go forth au roi Wenceslas to sing carols and raise money for a local charity.
You, too, can take part. If not by singing, by preparing an extra large bounty for those knocking on your door.
This year it will be on 19 December 2019 from about 6pm. Carollers get mince pies and mulled wine. Put it in your diaries,,,
A few other things…..
- There have been fraudsters knocking on doors claiming that some sort of emergency has happened and asking for money for buses, taxis, etc. Don’t pander to them and do call the police.
- Residents’ Parking Permits – these are coming up for renewal and anyone with one should have received a reminder. If not, best to contact the council now.
- If you have a new neighbour, why not lean over their fence and tell them about NSMRA and this newsletter,
